UK in Ghana

Ghana's President Mills joined other world leaders including Prime Minister Gordon Brown in pledging support for a campaign that unites football and education.

1GOAL is the brainchild of the Global Campaign for Education, a civil society organisation that is represented in many countries, including the UK and Ghana.  Its aim is to use the opportunity and media profile of next year's World Cup in South Africa to revitalise efforts on ensuring every child across the world has access to the education they deserve.

On Tuesday 6 October, a television broadcast from London saw leaders sign up to 1GOAL.  They included President Mills, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, President Zuma, Prime Minister Zapatero and Prime Minister Balkenende.  President Mills made an additional pledge that is specific to Ghana - that by the time of the World Cup, every Ghanaian child will have a textbook - One Child, One Textbook, 1GOAL.
