Registering with us
The FCO have set up a new improved online registration service called LOCATE. The old system where you had to register with each Embassy has ended.
British nationals can now register their details online. We encourage people to do this particularly in countries where consular assistance could be required; e.g. countries where there could be natural disasters, or in political unstable areas.
Your personal information need only be entered once and will remain on LOCATE. You can then enter your travel arrangements up to one year ahead. Details of your visits or residence abroad will be sent to the Embassy in the country you are visiting and deleted after your departure date.
An existing subscription to the FCO's Online Services will not provide access to LOCATE. If you registered with the FCO before 1 December 2007 you should register again as the new system can do many things; eg it will automatically email you back when you register to confirm we have your correct email address.
LOCATE is for British nationals travelling or living abroad to register themselves with the FCO. The old system was clogged with people’s details who had long since left the country where they registered. In an effort to mange this LOCATE requires you to log on once a year, if you don’t it will send you an email to ask if you wish to remain and to review your details. It also requires you to enter your residence abroad as less than one year. You may like to have collected details of your family’s passport numbers, travel insurance details and emergency contacts in the UK and Lebanon before you start to register on LOCATE.
