Our High Commission in Accra

The High Commission in Accra represents the British Government in relations with the Ghanaian Government and promotes the range of British interests in Ghana.

 

The High Commission in Accra represents the British Government in relations with the Ghanaian Government and promotes the range of British interests in Ghana. The High Commission, Accra is made up of eight sections. Further details about the activities of each is as follows: 

Chancery deals with bilateral relations between Ghana and the UK on issues of political and other interests. Also attached to the Chancery is a UK officer responsible for environment and human rights.

UK Trade & Investment is the Government organisation that supports both companies in the UK trading internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to locate to the United Kingdom. UKTI also supports and co-ordinates trade developments across government departments and across the various regions of the United Kingdom. We undertakes trade and investment work within the High Commission.

Consular Section protects the interest of British nationals in Ghana and provides travel advice for those wishing to travel to Ghana.
Defence provides assistance to Ghana in the development of democratically accountable armed forces.

Department for International Development (DFID) co-ordinates the provision of British development assistance to Ghana designed to help the Ghanaian government meet its own priorities as laid out in the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy. Management is the internal administrative branch of the High Commission providing management of High Commission staff and assets.

Press Public Affairs provides specific information about British government policy and general information about the UK for official organisations, media and members of the public. The section also oversees the Chevening Scholarship Scheme.

Visa Section gives practical assistance to those wishing to travel to the UK and processes applications for visas. Additional information on culture and tourism can also be obtained from the following organisations: 

  • The British Council in Ghana provides information on British culture and guidance on educational opportunities in the UK for Ghanaians.
  • The British Tourist Authority website gives information on tourism in the UK.
