Lost or stolen passports

Replacement passports will be ready for collection within 10 working days of the application being received and the fees paid.

If you lose or have had your passport stolen you will need to do the following:

  • Obtain a police report (for stolen passports only)
  • Report to the Consular Section of the British High Commission on the next working day (opening hours 0800 - 1400 Mon - Thurs and 0800 -1000 Friday), and complete a Lost & Stolen form.
  • You will need to apply for a new passport in the usual manner and pay the correct fees (see Renewing your Passport)
  • When you have your replacement passport you will need to obtain an exit visa from the Ghana Immigration Service

Replacement passports will be ready for collection within 10 working days of the application being received and the fees paid. If our internal nationality & passport checks reveal that your application is not straightforward you will be informed of an estimated date for a decision.

If an emergency passport is required out of office hours, for a genuine emergency, a call out fee of £121 per hour (up to a maximum of £870) is charged (in cash in local currency) in addition to the passport fees. However you will also require an exit visa from the Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters (Independence Avenue, off Ako Adjei overpass, tel. 021 258250) before you can leave the country; this is usually only available during their normal office hours (Monday to Friday).
