Supporting visiting British Navy ships
These visits form part of the Royal Navy’s South Atlantic patrol force providing a tangible UK maritime presence in South Atlantic and presence in West Africa in support of UN and UK interests. Ships have recently assisted the Ghana Navy to increase their capacity to police their 200 mile maritime Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Remembrance Day
November 11 each year is Remembrance Day world-wide in aid of Royal British Legion. The Defence Section in collaboration with the Veterans Association of Ghana organises this commemoration each year. In November 2001, the Defence Section held the first Commonwealth Remembrance Day. It was attended by dignitaries from the Ghana military command and the diplomatic corps.
Military training
The British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) is based at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). It supports the development of a professional, apolitical Ghanaian army which marks an effective contribution to peace support operations, stabilization and post-conflict peace building.
