HC in chat with upper east

The High Commission has £330 000 for 2008/9 to invest in meeting its strategic objectives

The British High Commission aims to complement the development work done by the UK Department for International Development, and contribute to the achievement of the UK Foreign Ministry's strategic objectives:

  • provide a flexible global network serving the whole of British Government
  • support the British economy
  • support British nationals abroad
  • support managed migration for Britain
  • prevent and resolve conflict
  • promote a low carbon, high growth, global economy

It does this through its consular, immigration, political and media work, and by strategically managing its funds.

Bilateral Fund:

The High Commission has £330 000 for 2008/9 to invest in meeting its objectives.  We are:

  • reducing the risk of conflict by promoting issue-based campaigning ahead of the December 2008 election, effective media coverage of the elections, and increased participation in the political process by young people, Muslims and women.
  • promoting peaceful, credible elections in Cote d'Ivoire
  • increasing awareness of climate change and its impact on Africa
  • supporting the Ghanaian Government in tackling illegal migration, and raising awareness of the threat people smuggling poses to stability
  • building Ghanaian capacity to combat serious crime, including drug trafficking and money laundering
  • strengthening UK-Ghana commercial ties

If you would like to explore the scope for using British High Commission funding to contribute to the achievement of the above objectives, please call

Africa Conflict Prevention Programme

The High Commission also manages projects funded by the UK Foreign Ministry's Africa Conflict Prevention Programme  to reduce the risk of conflict and promote sustainable peace.  These include:

  • work with the Ghana Police Service to increase Ghanaian capacity to contribute to African Union and United Nations peace support operations.
  • observation of the December election by the Carter Center.
